Why Nokia Lumia 900 may not be worth buying?

Nokia Lumia 900 may be one of the hyped releases this year. Premium priced @ 29,999, this phone was surely expected to be the life saver for Nokia. However there are several reasons for which we will not recommend this to customers. Here are few of the reasons :
·         A battery bug: The battery bug of Nokia Lumia 800 is surely a big disappointment for the Nokia fans. Although company have rolled out software fix for this bug, the bad taste still remains in customer’s mouth
·         No Bluetooth!:  You cannot transfer file through Bluetooth. Are you kidding me? Common how do I transfer files from my friend’s mobile or a song I like. Nokia you should think!
·         Sync through ZUNE: We all know Zune has been a dud. But it does not mean you should bug your customers with the dud product, by making a Lumia user to download Zune to sync files. Yes you heard it right. It is not a plug and play device. You want to add some music or files to your mobile go and download Zune and then sync through it. What a mess!!
·         No front facing camera: Common why should I pay premium price, if I cannot make video calls. Video call may not be your everyday thing. But then also, if I can get a front facing in the Android counterparts, why should I spend bucks on Windows OS.
·         1st of its class: This may not be a standard advice. But the fact is this is how it is. The first product of any company is not free of glitches. So wait for the next versions, they may get it right.

Top 4 Smart phones available today in the Indian market for Consumers.

Are you planning to buy a Smartphone this season?  Here is the list of top 4 Smartphone which you should definitely consider from Indian perspective:

·         Samsung Galaxy S2: This beefed up Galaxy S‘s successor is surely the best Smartphone available in the market. With 4.3 Inches Super Amoled Screen, an 8MP camera and a 2MP front camera this gadget is surely eye catching. 1.2GHz dual core processor makes it a speed monster. Priced @ 29, 967 this is surely the best choice. (Source: http://www.infibeam.com/Mobiles/i-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-I9100-Android/P-E-M-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-I9100.html)

·         Samsung Galaxy Note: If you want a lot in return for your money spent, this is the phone (or a Tablet. Confused!!!) to buy. Personally I am not a big fan of this phone. Common you need something to talk, something you can put in your pocket. You don’t need a phone for you which have to carry a separate bag. If you leave aside the size otherwise it is a performance monster. You name it – from 1.4 GHz Dual Core processor to 8 MP camera- it has everything you can imagine in a Smartphone.  In addition you get a stylus to use as pen. Interesting combo!! Priced@ 32, 700.(Source: http://www.infibeam.com/Mobiles/i-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-Android-Tablet/P-E-M-Samsung-Galaxy-Note.html?id=Blue)

·         HTC EVO 3D: This beefed up 3D phone from HTC is surely one of the best in the lot. Although it may have the same configuration as Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Note. 3D is thing that earns it the extra points. With 3D video shooting capability you can surely go for this @ 33,118 (Source: http://www.infibeam.com/Mobiles/i-HTC-EVO-3D-Android-Smartphone/P-E-M-HTC-EVO-3D.html?id=Black)

·         iPhone 4 (You heard it right, it is not iPhone 4S): This phone is surely the mother of all Smartphone. Being from a price sensitive country it may not live up to the expectation of the people. The fact is you either like it or you do not. Question may be why not iPhone 4s! The answer depends on whether you want to pay 10,000 extra for a voice assistant (plus 3MP increase in your camera) or not. The decision is yours!

Please note we have not yet got the 5th best for the customer. The moment we get the fifth one, we will update you guys. Although there was the hyped release of Nokia Lumia 900/800, but the battery bug along with various other issues made it a dud. Anyways it’s the topic of our next post.

Windows Phone 7 the next blackberry for business customer.

Blackberry the ubiquitous standard for business people is waning day by day. According to Gartner in the 3rd quarter of 2011, RIM accounted for 11% of the total mobile phone shipments down from 15 % at the same time, 2010. 24% decrease, is it what I am hearing? Does not matter what I hear, guys at Redmond should hear this and try to capitalize on this decline. This is their chance. Instead of trying in vain, to dethrone Android or iOS from the top they should try to build on the corporate customer. There are various reasons for that:
  •  Microsoft Office: Have you just said business or corporate? Or you meant OFFICE. Common it’s obvious to all, you are working in corporate culture you must have Microsoft Office. And the only phone available in the market to have full office integrated in it, without the need to purchase it, is Windows Phone 7. Do I need to say more???
  •         Enterprise support: With office 365 now you can easily work on your office documents from wherever you are. Need to store data, somewhere in the cloud. There is SkyDrive at your disposal. With blackberry you have to go appworld. Download dropbox . Or should I give you a manual to do that stuff?
  •       Graphical User Interface: Who said corporate customers like the snappy geeky (in fact the featureless) look of the Blackberry OS? Gone are the days when you can sell a phone saying you have the most secure email service. User nowadays needs a power boosted device which apart from the work of day will play their HD videos or capture High Definition images in their Carl Zeiss Lens.
  •       One-Note: Have a tight schedule to maintain. With One-note you can now easily maintain your to-do list.
  •        Corporate Security: IRM protected emails or documents can easily be opened or send through Windows Phone 7.

Gone are the days when RIM used to be the only choice for business customer. GE has already started to give iPhone to its employees on a trial basis. Microsoft can not let that happen if it wants a considerable share of the mobile phone market. To add to it there are also rumors that Blackberry may switch to their new QNS operating system (trust me looks classier and better!) by mid 2012. Till then guys at Redmond should try to exploit the Blackberry OS 7.1.

UltraBooks to watch out for in 2012!!

Ultrabooks are the new ubiquitous standard of modern day life. But if you are planning to buy Ultrabooks now, wait a bit because 2012 seems to be the year with lots of options in queue. Here are few choices which you can expect this year:

·         HP Envy 14 Spectre: The elegant MacBook carbon copy seems to be the perfect option for those who want an elegant APPLE stereotype, without the need to switch to MAC OS X. A familiar Windows 7 touch with a MacBook style, this little power house is sure to attract a lot of eyeballs.

Verdict: The best in the business along with Macbook Air. Beats Audio is surely the icing on the cake. Go for it, if spending some more bucks is not a concern for you!!

·         Dell XPS 13: The 13 inch version of XPS series is indeed the early steps of Dell towards UltraBooks category apart from the premium ADAMO series. The Gorilla glass covered edge to edge design is sure to attract a lot of customers along with its price in the bracket of 50,000-60,000.

Verdict: Go for it!! An XPS with an UltraBook look is hard to get. Along with such a price tag of 50,000-60,000, there is nothing to lose.

·         Acer Aspire S5: This new sleek-y beauty from Acer has an elegant magnesium finish along with HDMI, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt.

Verdict: Acer’s Aspire S5 has a hard competition from the other folks. But the price of 50,000-60,000 gives it a clear edge.

·         Samsung Series 9: The sleek-y Series 9 although has a feel of elegant Ultrabooks, but still the name of Samsung will serve as a stopper for the Indian consumers (More than 70000 for a Samsung laptop!! You gotta be kidding me!! Why not a Macbook Air for the same price!!)

Verdict: Killer looks along with a premium tag goes well with Apple. But same strategy for SAMUNG LAPTOPS!!! Skeptical!

·         Lenovo Idea Pad: This seems to be the one the most awaited Ultrabooks. May be not due to the most innovative design, but for the newest version of Windows OS, Windows 8. Let’s see what’s in store!

Verdict:  Wait till it hits the market.

·         MacBook Air: Finally the father of all UltraBooks. Rumors are ripe that this year it will be a 15 inch MacBook Air. Although the price is expected to be over 80,000 – 90,000 for the Indian customers, lets see what Apple’s pricing has in store for Indian customer (Don’t forget iPhone 4s costs 44,000!!!).

Verdict:  If you are a video editor or a multimedia expert or an Apple fan boy this is your dreamed possession. Otherwise you can spend a lot less dough to get the same specification (obviously you can not get the OS!).

·         HP Folio 13: The UltraBook for business customers. The slim formal looks with a whopping 9.5 hours battery life is surely an eye catcher. The price range (50,000-60,000) also seems to be the added specification.

Verdict: Go for it!! Give a second thought only if you are a Multimedia Professional or an Apple Fan boy or you want to impress someone!!

What to go for:
With such a range of competition in the UltraBook coming this year, the competition is surely tough. But here is what you should go for:

Business Professional: HP Folio 13, Dell XPS 13, MacBook Air
Student: HP Folio 13, Dell XPS 13, Acer Aspire S5
Multimedia Professional: MacBook Air, HP Envy 14 Spectre.
Daily Use: HP Folio 13, Dell XPS 13, Acer Aspire S5
